Several oral conditions necessitate the need for Prosthodontics. These include Bruxism i.e. the excessive clenching of the jaw or grinding of teeth; Edentulism i.e. excessive loss of teeth or being completely toothless; Occlusal trauma i.e. damages incurred on the teeth when left unattended to for long; Temporomandibular joint disorders i.e. pain and general dysfunctions of the muscles that make the jaws mobile; and severe bone disease that affects the jaws of the teeth otherwise known as Bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the human jaw.
It is the branch of dentistry or oral care that mainly concerns the design, making, and the fitting of artificial replacements for the teeth and other major parts of the mouth such as the teeth braces, dentures, fixed bridge, and dental implants among others.
